The 2024 Alberta Living Wage Report: How Living Wages Support Communities
Posted onWe're excited to share that the Alberta Living Wage Network has published its 2024 report, and we have some key updates for our community! This year, the living wage for the City of Brooks has decreased compared to 2023, reflecting changes in living costs and economic conditions within our Region.
What is a Living Wage?
A living wage is defined as the hourly rate at which workers need to earn to meet their basic expenses and still have a modest standard of living once government transfers have been added and taxes have been subtracted. It reflects what’s needed for a decent life based on full-time employment (35 hours a week or 1,800 hours annually) and excludes additional benefits, perks and paid time off beyond legislative requirements. This serves as a crucial benchmark for supporting workers and strengthening the local economy.
Why Does This Matter for Businesses?
A living wage isn't just a number, it's an investment of our workforce.
